3. Axle Bearings

5. Scooter Bearings
If you have plastic core scooter wheels then fitting the bearings is very straight forward as they typically can be pushed in by hand without issue. Fitting scooter bearings into Metal core wheels is a little trickier as they are designed to be a tight fit so pushing them in by hand rarely works. In our workshop we used to use a vise to gently squeeze them in, but now we use a hammer!! Apply a small amount of grease to the edges of each bearing you are going to install. Apply a small amount of grease to the inside hole on the scooter wheel where the bearings are going to be fitted. Place the bearing over the hole in the wheel and try and make sure that it is straight/level as possible. Place either a block of wood or an old paperback book over the top of the bearing and gently strike this with the hammer (Important - do not strike the bearing directly with the hammer). When the bearing has been hammered in fully into the hole in the middle of your wheel it should sit flush with the edge of the wheel Turn the wheel over and insert the bearing spacer (you will need a bearing spacer, if you do not use one your wheel will not spin when you do your axles up securely!)

Plain bearings. Spherical plain bearings are standardized, ready-to-mount mechanical components that are self-aligning and enable multi-directional alignment movements to be made. The inner ring has a sphered convex outside diameter and the outer ring has a correspondingly sphered but concave inside surface. Rod ends are bearing units that consist of a spherical plain bearing in an eye-shaped head with integral shank - the rod end housing. They are used primarily on the ends of piston rods or together with hydraulic as well as pneumatic cylinders to join the cylinder to associated components.
